Attack of the Phobia

No matter how trivial or irrational it may seem to others, in the grip of fear you can feel paralysed, completely helpless, even by a small spider or the thought of going in a lift. In moderation, these phobias do little more than inconvenience you, but for a lot of people with phobias, simply being in the presence of something they fear causes:

• Irrational behaviour (climbing furniture or leaving rooms in order to avoid contact)
• Hyperventilation
• Sweating
• Nausea
• Inability to go about everyday tasks until the things they fear are no longer nearby.

As much as you might be able to put up with being phobic, and perhaps even laugh about it when you’re sure the things that trigger fear aren’t around, logically, why should fear of an object, an animal or a situation have power over you? Wouldn’t it be easier if you could go anywhere you wanted and do anything you pleased without having to check that there’s nothing to throw you into panic?

Why do I get so frightened?

In the back of your mind, you know that you’re bigger than the spider, that the clown is just a person like any other, and that nothing untoward will happen when it gets dark, so you might wonder why you have phobias in the first place. Most phobias begin as a healthy dislike, and then become amplified because of factors such as stress, negative childhood associations. Once anxiety enters the equation, your brain will respond by activating the ‘fight or flight response’ that it uses when you’re in danger, not realising that although the phobia scares you, it cannot hurt you.

Regain Total Control

Just over ten per cent of adults will develop a phobia at some point, so although you may be embarrassed by it, it’s not as uncommon as you may think, Phobias can be treated by convincing the brain that they are no reason to panic. A hypnotic trance takes you too a calm place, where inner anxieties can be tackled without triggering a negative reaction from the brain. People who’ve had phobia hypnotherapy often find that they feel:

• Perfectly comfortable with that which they once feared
• More confident in unfamiliar surroundings
• More spontaneous

Relationships and removing limiting beliefs about money

I cannot put into words what a difference this has made to my life. I was feeling extremely anxious and the therapy that Maria has given me has helped tremendously. I found the sessions enjoyable and interesting and could see results after just the first session mainly focused on anxiety around my daughter and my ex-partner and anger towards certain people. I found all her BAGC6 tools extremely helpful and it made such a difference to my sense of wellbeing undertaking these tasks every day. I was excited to do them! After a couple of days of doing them, I felt so much calmer and happier and was feeling optimistic again and back to myself. In the first session, we did some work around how I could deal with my toddler in a more patient manner and the following day the technique Maria had showed me worked perfectly. I was really shocked at how quickly it worked. Once I dealt with this initial difficulty, I then started to work with finances and making money. Maria helped me to remove limiting beliefs about money, and again the tools that Maria gave me and the work at home around my financial situation and letting go of old patterns has really help. Also, what I love about the therapy is that the tools and recordings that Maria gave me are still there for me to use when I have a difficult time again. I have already recommended a friend to see Maria. I cannot thank you enough Maria for what you have helped me with.
