Hypnosis as a Method to Combat Stress – Hypnosis and Stress

Stress is a phenomenon which occurs when our mind is thrown off balance by a situation which may be undesirable or unexpected. Over expectations from oneself and others or pressure to complete a particular task on time may also lead to the disruption of mental peace. In the event of the occurrence of any undesirable and unexpected situation, the brain registers sudden pressure and goes into a panic mode. This hampers the proper functioning of the mind and body and cause “stress”. The effects of stress are not limited to behavioural changes alone; the whole body suffers. If stress persists for a very long time, it results in chronic stress which can have several deleterious effects. Prolonged periods of stress may lead to suppression of the immune system, loss of memory, asthma, increased vulnerability to heart attacks and high blood pressure. Symptoms of stress include excessive tiredness and weariness. A stressful person feels less confident and fears making decisions. Insomnia and changes in eating habits like loss of appetite or excessive eating may be an indication of stress. Among the physiological symptoms, sudden outburst of acne or occurrence of skin blemishes is the most common, diarrhoea or constipation may also occur. Some people are more vulnerable to stress than others; they find tackling troublesome situations difficult and breakdown under pressure. It is important to beat stress right at the beginning. If it is not combated early it may disrupt and effect several important aspects of life. Help with stress can be external and internal. Internal help with stress includes self motivation, perseverance and self belief. When internal methods of stress management fail one requires external help with stress. Talking to a trustworthy friend and near and dear ones can be beneficial. Another method for stress management is hypnosis.

Hypnosis and stress

Hypnosis can be used for the successful treatment of stress. During hypnotherapy the conscious mind goes into a relaxed state while the unconscious mind awakens. Inner problems are resolved as hypnosis continues. The subconscious mind is accessed through hypnotherapy wherein lay all unresolved problems and troubles. Hypnosis is an excellent cure to manage stress and anxiety. If a person has difficulty in managing stress, hypnosis may be of great help. When a person is under stress, he looses control over self and tries to avoid the stressful situation. Hypnosis can help in stress management by making a person confront the cause of stress and work accordingly. Stress makes us bow down to it and hinders rational thinking, hypnosis can help the mind break away from the shackles of stress and be in control.

Stress management through hypnosis helps beat stress by rebuilding confidence. Another advantage of hypnosis is that it soothes the mind and rids it of negative thoughts. After hypnosis treatment one becomes optimistic and better at handling stressful situations.
